25 Feb 2019: OARC is happy to announce they have chosen Sistem Teknik of Turkey to design and construct the new 5th furnace in the plant. Sistem Teknik is a premier player in the aluminium furnace industry and has installations across the world. The firm already has multiple furnaces in both Oman and the GCC; thus, this project will further enhance their role within the Gulf region. OARC is proud to partner with such an experienced and reputable firm. The new 120-ton melting furnace will allow OARC to increase the total nameplate capacity of the plant from 160 kt to 210 kt. The new furnace will remove the last remaining casting bottleneck, while also allowing for significantly more efficient operations, freeing up 50k metric tons of capacity in our state-of-the art Hazelett belt caster. The new furnace will allow OARC to procure and remelt up to 50k tonnes annually of scrap that can be mixed with liquid prime metal, taking our total post-consumer scrap from zero to 25% by 2021. With the use of scrap, we will be able to stretch our metal supply to increase capacity, lower our metal average cost, and reduce our carbon footprint by reducing our reliance on primary metal. The project is a winner for all stakeholders in OARC.
